The Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI) is a global alliance of alternative asset managers (mainly hedge funds) and institutional investors dedicated to improving the alternative investment industry.
The SBAI sets industry standards, provides industry guidance, and facilitates collaboration and the exchange of ideas between institutional investors and asset managers.
It maintains the Alternative Investment Standards, which address key areas of alternative investment practices: Disclosure, Valuation, Risk Management, Fund Governance, and Shareholder Conduct.
The SBAI also creates working groups to examine industry issues, serves as a resource to regulators, and runs an active program of global events that bring together its investor and manager members.
The SBAI was established in 2008 as the Hedge Fund Standards Board (HFSB). It is a non-profit organization.
Members include 250+ institutional investors and asset managers responsible for approximately $8tn in assets. Managers join by becoming signatories to the Standards and paying an annual fee based on AUM.
